Valda Energy Limited

Valda Energy is a GB licensed electricity and gas business, supplying to SMEs (small-medium sized enterprises) across England, Scotland and Wales.

Valda Energy purchases gas and electricity in the wholesale market.

The company uses smart metering technology Smart Metering Equipment Technical Specifications (SMETS2). Smart meters automatically monitor energy consumption and spend by taking automated reads. Usage data can then be viewed via the Valda Energy app or online Customer Portal.

History

Valda Energy Limited (company number 11212563) [2] began trading in April 2019 [3].

Operations

In January 2020, Valda Energy agreed a three-year deal for energy supply from Axpo [4], granting access to the long and short-term commodity market and providing them with electricity and gas.

Valda Energy also sources a portion of its electricity from renewable energy sources, supporting UK renewable energy-generating sites through offering a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The company also offers renewable energy certificates and incentive schemes including Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs), Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) and Feed-in-Tariffs (FITs) [5].

In February 2020, Valda Energy became a member of Regen, a not-for-profit centre of energy expertise and market insight, whose mission is to transform the world's energy systems for a zero-carbon future. Valda Energy membership listing [6].

In December 2020, Valda Energy launched SmartChoice [7]. SmartChoice is a tariff where customers purchase energy credit in advance. SmartChoice customers manage their account through the Valda Customer Portal, which can be accessed as an app on Apple App Store and Google Play as well as desktop.

Smart Metering

Valda Energy installs SMETS2 smart meters in all properties that are compatible with this meter type. SMETS2 are the most secure and safest smart meter available and are all subject to the same safety regulations and testing as any in-home technological devices, complying to both UK and EU laws.
